Say Goodbye to That Stump

That old tree stump in your yard is more than an eyesore — it is a tripping hazard, a haven for pests, and an obstacle to mowing and landscaping. Our professional stump grinding service removes stumps quickly, safely, and completely, leaving the area clean and ready for your next project.

How Stump Grinding Works

Unlike stump removal that excavates the entire root ball, stump grinding uses a specialized machine to grind the stump down below grade, anywhere from 6 to 18 inches depending on your plans for the area. For lawn or replanting, 6 to 12 inches is standard. The wood chips created by grinding can be used as mulch around the remaining hole or hauled away as part of our cleanup.

What Is Included

  • Full assessment of stump size and root system
  • Professional grinding to 6 to 18 inches below grade
  • Root flare cleanup around the grinding area
  • Wood chip removal or redistribution as mulch
  • Area left level and ready for topsoil and seed or landscaping

Stump Grinding vs. Stump Removal

Stump grinding is the preferred option in most cases because it is less invasive to the surrounding landscape, faster, and more cost-effective. Full stump removal excavates the entire root ball, which disturbs a much larger area and leaves a significant hole. Grinding handles the stump itself while leaving the root system largely intact — which is ideal for lawn areas.

Other Considerations

Grinding does not remove all tree roots — large lateral roots may remain underground. These will naturally decay over time and do not interfere with replanting or landscaping. If you are planning to build or pour concrete in the area, let us know — we may recommend full root removal instead.
